This statement necklace is one of the many projects I have made as a fashion student. This accessory is close to my heart as It is the first necklace design I have ever created thus it is truly meaningful and special. Can you believe it is made out of Christmas decor scraps? I couldn’t believe it either as I never knew that I can create an accessory out of inexpensive materials and make them “shine bright like a diamond”.
My inspiration for making this beautiful necklace are from the objects in my room that were eye-catching at the moment and had just let my imagination and creativity run wild as I looked closely at every single one of them.
As you can see, I have used the colors black, gold, silver, and white as my main color pallette. The round necklace cord is adorned with white leaves which the idea was taken from my decorative flowers, a white and gold lace ribbon from my H&M ribbon hairclip, and the snowflakes are a representation of my huge pink gemstone, white and silver crystal necklace, and a Burberry perfume bottle.
Once I have finished creating my masterpiece, an overwhelming feeling of happiness and amazement had succumbed me. I have never enjoyed spending time creating something that will mean valuable to me. It is like my brain had just given birth, through the means of my creativity.
You may be wondering how much it costed me to make this original accessory. The table below shows my production costs in two ways.
Crystal dimension necklace #1 shows the real cost of materials per 3 to 5 pieces and the production cost is totalled as $12.99 for only one necklace. Whereas on the right part of the table, Crystal dimension necklace #2, the cost of materials are priced lower when it is purchased in bulk or wholesale and a shortened labor time of 20 minutes thus presenting a production cost of only $4.87 for each necklace out of let’s say 100 as it is from bulk materials. This means that the profit that will be gained from Crystal dimension necklace #2 is as much as $12.16, compared to Crystal dimension necklace #1 which only has a return profit of $2.42 (Correct me if my calculation is wrong as I am no math wizard! š).
As a conclusion, when sourcing out for materials needed for a sellable item, the best method is to buy them in bulk or wholesale price and re-design your product based on how it can be constructed in a short amount of time to be able to achieve a lower production cost. Then, price the item according to its value andĀ recieve higher percentage in profit. Designers can also double or triple their profits by mass producing the item and sell them in large quantities.
The Crystal Dimension statement necklace can be worn alone as an eye candy on a plain, casual top, add elegance to a simple dress, or have a corporate attire look stylishly modern and fun. So go ahead and add pizzazz to any dull outfit by using statement necklaces and chic accessories.
